What is Acker Tower?

Acker towers are an important part of the massive mass and heat transfer equipment. Today, the use of filled towers is increasing due to lower pressure drop, higher capacity and mass transfer than tray towers.
In this research, parameters affecting the tower’s performance such as fluid retention and gas phase mass transfer coefficients in the water tower were measured using irregular acne in towers of 0.2 and 0.1 meters in diameter and 1 meter in height. In experiments, the weather was used for the gas and liquid phase. The air discharge is between 1.32 to 3.93 cubic meters per hour and liquid flow rate is 10 to 70 cubic meters per hour. One of the parameters influencing the mass transfer of the contact surface is effective. In this research, the Nakajima model was used to calculate the effective contact surface, then the experimental values of gas phase mass transfer coefficients were compared with Zech, Onda, Billet, Shulman, Grouff, Shi models. The relative error of the average of these models with the experimental results is 7%, 5%, 15%, 21%, 45% and 195% respectively. The results showed that with decreasing the diameter of the tower, the gas phase mass transfer coefficient (Kg.ae) increased. Also, the amount of survival showed that the tower’s stay in diameter of 0.1 is more than 0.2 m in diameter.
